Inmates Housed Out of State

The Vermont Department of Corrections is pleased to announce that as of September 19, 2018, we have secured a signed two-year contract with CoreCivic. Inmates currently housed at SCI Camp Hill in Camp Hill, PA will be moving to Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility (TCCF), which is a medium security correctional facility located in Tutwiler, Mississippi approximately 1374 miles from Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, VT. The Out of State Unit, who handled the transition from GEO group to Pennsylvania, will handle this transition which is expected to take place in fall of 2018.

This facility is not operated by the Mississippi Department of Corrections system, which means that it is not part of the Interstate Corrections Compact (ICC). The ICC requires that Vermont inmates housed in another state’s facilities be governed by the rules in that state. The contract now in place with CoreCivic allows for Vermont to include adherence to our laws, rules, and policies as part of the agreement. The Vermont Department of Corrections is confident that the nature of this arrangement will enable us to maintain the most suitable and secure location to house those currently housed out of state.
