Waterbury, VT – The Vermont Department of Corrections (DOC) today announced an investigation into Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility (MVRCF) Superintendent Sharon Nykiel. Per standard DOC practice, Superintendent Nykiel was placed on paid administrative leave while the Vermont Department of Human Resources conducts an independent investigation.
The Department launched the investigation following an allegation of misconduct.
Assistant Superintendent Michael Dounetos will oversee daily operations at MVRCF until an Interim Superintendent appointment is made in the coming days.
“We are responsible for the safety of those in our care and custody, and we have an obligation to hold our staff to the highest standards,” said Nicholas J. Deml, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Corrections. “The Department is committed to fully and thoroughly investigating any allegation at all levels of our organization.”
As per Departmental policy, DOC does not comment on personnel investigations. DOC, in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources, will release the outcome of the investigation process upon its completion.
