Waterbury, VT – The Vermont Department of Corrections today announced the death of Sean Osterhout, an incarcerated individual at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility (TCCF).
Sean Osterhout, 43, of Barre, Vermont, was found unresponsive in his cell at 2:06am (CT) on March 9. TCCF staff immediately began life-saving measures and called for emergency medical services (EMS). Life-saving efforts, including CPR, were unsuccessful. EMS pronounced Mr. Osterhout deceased at 2:38am.
The Department notified the Defender General’s Prisoners’ Rights Office of the death per state law and protocol. The DOC Corrections Investigative Unit will also conduct a comprehensive administrative review according to departmental policy.
Mr. Osterhout was incarcerated in 2019 and serving a 14 to 30 year sentence on charges of Lewd and Lascivious with Child x2. He was housed at TCCF in 2019. The Department houses a small number of sentenced individuals at TCCF due to lack of space in Vermont correctional facilities. TCCF staff are contractually obliged to follow Vermont Department of Corrections policy.
