Three New Covid-19 Cases Detected in Incarcerated Population

Waterbury, VT – Vermont Department of Corrections (Vermont DOC) is reporting three new COVID-19 cases among incarcerated individuals at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility (CRCF).

The three cases were detected through outbreak testing conducted on January 26. The three individuals are in isolation and close contacts are quarantined.

Outbreak testing was ordered by Vermont DOC and Vermont Department of Health (Health) following six positive staff cases at CRCF and one positive staff case at Southern State Correctional Facility. The positive staff cases were detected during routine staff surveillance testing on January 21.

Both facilities are in full lockdown pending results from outbreak testing scheduled for February 1.

There are currently 11 positive staff members and three positive incarcerated individuals. In total, 50 staff members and 247 incarcerated individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 since March 2020. The incarcerated individuals include the Vermont population at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi.
