Earned Good Time Permanent Rule Proposal: Public Comment Sessions Friday

Waterbury, VT - The Vermont Department of Corrections invites victims of crime, families of victims, and members of the public to offer comments about a permanent rule on the creation of an “earned good time” program.

The new rule is required by Act 148: An act relating to justice reinvestment. Act 148 establishes a mechanism for eligible inmates and offenders to earn up to seven (7) days off their minimum and maximum sentence for each month they meet the program requirements. This permanent rule will become effective in April 2021 and replace the emergency rule that goes into effect on January 1, 2021.

Two public meetings are scheduled for November 20, 2020:

  • 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

The meetings will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, with a call-in option.

The proposed rule and information about how to join the meeting or provide written feedback are posted on the Vermont DOC website: https://doc.vermont.gov/policies-directives-and-rules

Please note: This is a comment period, not a question-and-answer session. All media inquiries should be directed to Rachel Feldman, Vermont Department of Corrections public information officer: Rachel.feldman@vermont.gov
