Vermont Correctional Academy

Welcome to the Vermont Correctional Academy home page.  We were established in the Fall of 1993.  The first Academy class Graduated on October 1st of that year.  Our current program consists of 1 week of job shadowing at a correctional institution, 5 weeks of Class room instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy, and 2 weeks of On the Job training back at the recruits work site.

 Our Mission

The Vermont Correctional Academy is vital to the Department’s statutory mandate to establish training programs for new employees and to establish such in-service training programs as deemed advisable. As an Academy we are responsible for developing training curriculum that will produce highly trained, professional, and competent staff throughout the department. To maintain a standard of excellence the Academy is dedicated to the development of curriculum and department furnished instructors. Academy curriculum is regularly reviewed, updated and revised to meet the needs of today’s correctional professional. The Academy will prepare new employees for success in the correctional profession; enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of experienced staff and empower all staff; to maintain a high standard of professionalism.
