Seven New COVID-19 Cases in St. Johnsbury Staff, Population

Waterbury, VT – A total of 19 incarcerated individuals and four staff members at Northeast Correctional Complex (NECC) in St. Johnsbury have tested positive for COVID-19 in the current outbreak.

Outbreak testing on November 5 returned three new COVID-positive cases in the incarcerated population and four cases among staff at Northeast Correctional Complex (NECC) in St. Johnsbury.

The COVID-positive incarcerated individuals are from three adjacent housing units, the first of which was detected in testing on October 25. The facility has been on full lockdown since October 31 and is scheduled for four more rounds of outbreak testing between November 8 and November 19.

Statewide there are 18 currently positive incarcerated cases, all of which are at NECC; the first individual to test positive in the outbreak has since been medically cleared. Four of Vermont’s correctional facilities and one field office have positive staff cases.
