Eight New COVID-19 Cases Detected in Corrections Staff

Waterbury, VT – Vermont Department of Corrections (Vermont DOC) is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases among Vermont DOC staff.

There are: six cases at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility (CRCF), one case at Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF), and one in the Probation and Parole offices.

Vermont DOC and Vermont Department of Health (Health) officials immediately took the following actions as standard operating procedure upon receipt of the positive test results on Saturday:

  • Contact tracing completed with the Rapid Response Team.
  • Staff and incarcerated individuals identified through contact tracing are in quarantine.
  • CRCF and SSCF placed on full lockdown pending test results on the following dates:
    • CRCF: January 26 and February 1
    • SSCF: February 1

There are currently 11 positive staff members and zero positive incarcerated individuals. In total, 50 staff members and 244 incarcerated individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 since March 2020. The incarcerated individuals include the Vermont population at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Miss.
