COVID-19 Detected in St. Johnsbury General Population Units

Waterbury, VT – The Vermont Department of Corrections detected three new incarcerated cases of COVID-19 in isolation testing of symptomatic incarcerated individuals at Northeast Correctional Complex (NECC) in St. Johnsbury. The tests were performed Saturday and Tuesday, with results returned Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.

The positive individuals are from two units in the same building. The facility is on full lockdown, contact tracing is underway, and Vermont DOC and Vermont Department of Health are coordinating follow-up testing of the facility.

Three other incarcerated individuals also received positive test results Monday. All were new intakes at Northwest State Correctional Facility (NWSCF) in St. Albans, and one has since been released.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 12 incarcerated individuals are considered positive across five Vermont facilities.

Statewide, 50 positive staff cases currently exist across six correctional facilities, six field offices, and Central Office.
