97th Vermont Correctional Academy Graduation to be Held Friday, June 6, in Rutland

Waterbury, VT – The Vermont Correctional Academy will hold its 97th graduation ceremony at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland on Friday, June 6th , when 27 new officers will be sworn in and join the ranks of the 600 correctional officers within the state’s 9 correctional facilities.

The keynote address will be provided by Representative Joe Acinapura.  Representative Acinapura, a state legislator who represents the town of Brandon, has an extensive history of public service, including chairing the Vermont Parole Board, the Governor's Veterans Advisory Council and the Brandon Selectboard.  In addition to serving as a state representative, he currently serves as President of the Board of the Safer Society and as a member of the Board of the Vermont Veteran's Home in Bennington.  He previously coached basketball at Otter Valley Union High School, taught at the College of St Joseph in Rutland and the Northlands Job Corps Center in Vergennes, and served in the U.S. Army for 28 years.

The Correctional Academy, located at the College of St. Joseph (Rutland), has existed as the Department of Corrections’ pre-service training program since 1993 and trained over 1,000 recruit and veteran officers.  The increasing range of contemporary training topics includes security management, legal issues, ethics, mental health, supervision, conflict and crisis management, and emergency prevention and response.

The general public is invited to attend.
