Wage Deductions:  Those items, specified in 18 U.S.C. 1761 (c)(2), that can be deducted from gross PIECP inmate wages: taxes, family support, victim assistance, and room and board.394.02)

Waiver:  The official action of an alcohol treatment or medical professional for the lodging of an Incapacitated Person at a correctional facility or local lockup indicating that there is no treatment service available, that the possible treatment service is refused by this particular person, or that the person refuses treatment. (306)

Warrant:  An order to arrest a person issued by the court or Parole Board. (315.01)

Weapon: Any firearm, device, instrument, material or substance, which in the manner it is used or is intended to be used is known to be capable of producing death or serious bodily injury (excerpted from Vermont Law) (Interim Procedure – Use of Force Field and Threats on Staff)

Willingness Checklist: A list of correctional officer position requirements for which an applicant would mark Yes or No in terms of his/her willingness to perform such tasks.  A “no” may be grounds for a decision not to hire someone regardless of how well that person did in the testing process.  (122.03)

Work Camp:  Residential program where the focus is to provide offenders the opportunity to return value to the community. (316)

Work Rule 13: A Work Rule promulgated by the Department of Corrections on April 7, 1997 which states:

         “Romantic and/or sexual relationships between employees and offenders under and type of                          

         Department Control or supervision are strictly prohibited unless the employee and the offender had a       

         romantic and/or sexual relationship prior to the offender being under any type of Department control

         or supervision and so long as the employee brings such relationship to the attention of the appointing

         Authority.  Actions are also prohibited which gives the appearance of an improper relationship

         between an employee and an offender.  These include, but are not limited to: hugging, kissing, hand-

         holding and unofficial correspondence.  Employees, while on duty or engaged in activity associated     

         with the Department of Corrections shall conduct themselves in a professional manner in their

          interactions with co-workers.” (126.01) 

Work Unit: A work site or unit within the Department of Corrections (e.g., Facility, Probation & Parole Office, Out of State Unit, Vermont Correctional Industries, Information Technology, Security and Supervision, Education, etc.) (117.01 – 1/08)

Work Unit Supervisor:  The Corrections’ employee in either the field or Central Office who manages or supervises the employees within a specific work unit (e.g., District Manager, Superintendent, Program Services Executive, Academy Training Coordinator, etc.) (117.01 – 1/08)
